A culinary delight of homemade dishes whipped up like no other, The Hungry Spoon brings a unique gastronomic twist to KL, where food truly touches the soul.
Homemade delights at its best – it’s rare to find a homely gem like The Hungry Spoon in the bustling Sri Petaling neighbourhood. With both chefs having trained at the highly prestigious institution, Le Cordon Bleu, and with a professional international culinary background, working in Ottawa, Montreal and Phuket, the founders of The Hungry Spoon returned to Malaysia and combined their exquisite and refined palettes with a local Malaysian twist, creating delicious dishes for locals near and far.
Inside, the casual family-friendly bistro is fresh and modern with retro elements adding fun and quirkiness to the simple set-up. Pictures and artwork hang on walls and the metal wall-fence, where the stone-style wall finishes and green features create a cool, outdoor organic vibe. At the entrance, a built-in aquarium houses Charlie – a black tip baby shark, who entertains diners of all ages. Around the counter, vibrant colours – from the coffee machine, the cups and saucers, to the quaint ornaments – pop against the plain wall and dark furnishings. Furthermore, several stunning and vivid paintings intensely contrast with the simplicity of the interior and the black accents, complementing the cosy family-friendly style.
With an enticing menu, the chefs prepare almost everything from scratch, from homemade sauces and breads to mouth-watering desserts, using a variety of fresh local produce and imported treats such as the finest Swiss chocolate. On the menu, the selection of western dishes varies from heart-warming brunches, healthy homemade soups and salads, wholesome mains and pastas to desirable desserts.
The Hungry Spoon recommendations include ‘Eggs in A Pan’ – perfectly poached eggs in a sweet yet zingy tomato sauce served with homemade toasted bread; ‘The Piment Blanc’ – a creamy white sauce spaghetti with the freshest mixed seafood and a pungent kick of chilli that makes every bite a surprise leaving you wanting more; the ‘Salmon’ main – a flawlessly and beautifully pan seared salmon with the crispiest skin accompanied with a fresh selection of vegetables; ‘Stick Toffee Cake’ – a traditional, moist and hearty dessert that is simply too heavenly to be sinful; and the selection of homemade ice-creams – from the rich and velvety dark chocolate, the citrusy and aromatic early grey , to the indulgent ‘CookieMonster’ ice-cream.
Tantalising and impeccable, the homemade food doesn’t disappoint. Burst of flavour and textures blend delectably and are more than just satisfying. With its charming interior and tempting meals, a family-friendly causal outing couldn’t be more perfect.
