Best Advice
Money matters! So have a preliminary budget in mind. Get all your figures in your hand and then only begin.

Starting Point
Find out if any wet works such as plaster, painting, electrical etc… needs doing first, and if you need carpentry works doing. If you have several things that need to be done, try and source out 1 or 2 contractors that can cover all of these things for you, otherwise handling multiple contractors can lead to a renovation nightmare!

Top Tip
When you have all your figures, set aside an extra 10% to cover any miscellaneous items and add-ons. Set a realistic timeline, plus extra time should any construction be needed. Remember – some things cannot be rushed.

Budget Makeover
Refer to images for inspiration. Count on wallpaper finishes and tasteful loose furniture to jazz up a space.

Need-To-Know
Interior design should be the sum of an overall aesthetic and experience. Spaces need to be in sync – from space planning, lighting and colour combinations etc… A simple makeover will save you money but you will need to do most of the work yourself. If you opt to have something that transcends from an idea or a piece of paper into reality, seek expertise from a professional interior designer.

Best Advice
Know what you want to achieve and also the reason for the makeover such as appearance purposes, practical changes to accommodate lifestyle, touch up and renew old looking parts etc…

Starting Point
Friends and family who have gone through the process themselves is always a good starting point. But do your own research too and find different service providers, look to magazines and online sources for inspirations and ideas.

Top Tip
Understand that there are many methods to achieving your goal. What worked for others may not necessarily work for you, based on your own requirements.

Budget Makeover
You don’t need to do everything in one go! Leave room – literally – for future additions that you may pick up along the way from travels, expos, good deals etc… This should definitely help to spread the cost over a longer period of time.

Investment
Find a good quality, main piece of furniture like a sofa or dining table. It will not only serve its practical purpose for many years to come, but can turn out to be a showcase or feature in the space itself.

Need-To-Know
To keep things fresh, change up décor to compliment the main furniture. Things like throws, pillows, dining chairs, table mats and other small decorative pieces can help refresh the interior.

Best Advice
Always ask yourself, ‘what do I want?’ Others have their own ideas and preferences, but you should always think of yourself and your own likes when it comes to a makeover.

Starting Point
There are 4 things you need to start with – research, concept, space planning and quotation. Research interior ideas, find out what you like and don’t like. Decide on a concept or style. Every space is different so you need to consider space planning and lastly, decide on the budget and how much you want to spend.

Top Tip
You can do as much research as you want, but get advice from a professional. They can help you realise your ideas and give you a specialist perspective.

Investment
A genuine, statement designer piece is a must! It will be a timeless addition to your home and will last for as long as you after it. Go for a piece such as a sofa, a dining table or a bed frame.

Need-To-Know
Lighting can have a major effect on the interior design. Natural light can work wonders in any space and enhance interiors with warmth. Artificial lighting can create ambiances and set the scene for an interior, so think about the purpose of the space and choose suitable lighting to complement it.
