In this outstanding project by Brazilian architect Diego Revollo, Ceramiche Refin tiles were brought in to bring the designer’s vision to life. Located in Alto da Lapa, São Paulo, Brazil, this 130m² apartment was given an eye-catching treatment using contemporary tiles.
“The client realised immediately that the interior space needed to be radically different, he wanted something personal yet perennial,” the architect explains. “The basic elements needed to be high quality and original and this is where the tiles came into their own.”
To make it work, Diego put together the best of Brazilian elements with enduring European design influences to create a contemporary scheme. Within the small space, American Walnut panels were used with local Cumaru wood (Brazilian gold teak) – they are then juxtaposed against a soft textural grey palette.
For the kitchen, the backdrop is fully clad in patterned tiles set in a monotone palette. The 360° application of the tiles engages the kitchen space as the focal point of this small apartment. To give the space more definition, the architect employed a long kitchen counter to separate the living area from the kitchen. Furniture and furnishing are kept minimal and a uniform palette of walnut brown against lush grey were used to keep the entire design consistent and cohesive. To tie the design together, sculptural furniture and artefacts with transparent elements of lighting alongside accessories were used strategically.
