Colourful Rooms to Lift Your Mood

We once looked into the means and ways of using bright colours to decorate an interior. This time around, we pressed our design experts for examples of their uses of colour to enliven otherwise bland spaces.

The Pre-Schooler’s Room

We begin our exploration with two examples of children’s rooms where colour is liberally used to stimulating effect. The conventional wisdom regarding colour – at least when applied to spaces frequented by mini-people, is to use a vibrant palette in an effort to stimulate the visual cortices of growing minds.

The Pre-Adolescent’s Room
As children age and begin to form their identities, favourite colours start to become a matter of concern when going through colour swatches. A child’s bedroom can be saturated in bright shades of a preferred colour to produce an enlightening ambiance.

The Teenager’s Room
Further ahead in a young person’s life, the issues of self-sufficiency and ownership of one’s own spaces comes to the forefront. Colours are used in older children’s bedrooms to personalise spaces, and to comfort as well as to enliven the mind of the occupant.

The Adult’s Bedroom
Colours can also be used to help adults retain some playfulness while in the midst of seeking a sustainable work-life balance. Just a few features – wall accents, carpets, pillows, and some wallpaper are all that are needed to turn a clinical space into a warm and personalised domain.

Living Spaces
The use of colours need not be restricted to just bedrooms, saturating living spaces in rich hues of blue can turn simple entertainment areas into zones of stress relief. This effect can be achieved just as easily with the addition of coloured light as with some throw cushions as accents.
