Back in May of this year (2017) we held a contest in which one of our readers stood a chance of winning a makeover giveaway consisting of the Dulux Ambiance paint system applied to a wall of the winner’s home. All prospective contest entrants had to do was to provide us with their most creative wall photos with accompanying captions. The lucky winner – Hani Omas, selected Dulux’s very own shade of Cosmos blue for her living room wall, not just for its calming nature but also because her children favoured the colour as well.
The Dulux Ambiance Velvet Silver Cosmos paint system was applied to the living room wall beginning with the obligatory surface preparation: cleaning and drying of the wall followed by a single coat of Dulux Sealer left to cure for around four hours. Colour was then introduced with two coats of Dulux’s Ambiance Pearl Glo in “Cosmos Blue” using a roller, with around four hours of drying time between each coat.
Most of us would have been satisfied with the resulting deep and rich blue tone, but Dulux went a step further and dispensed some bonafide magic with the application of Dulux Ambiance Velvet. Two coats of Dulux Ambiance Velvet were applied (with four to six hours of drying time allowed between coats) using a roller to distribute the paint, but because the finishing coats utilised a thicker and more viscous liquid, a trowel was used to smoothen the coat and create the wavy strokes reminiscent of luxurious velvet.
Hani Omas seemed to be in awe of the finished result, breaking into a wide grin when describing the beauty of the completed Dulux Ambiance Velvet Silver Cosmos paint system with the Dulux Ambiance Pearl Glo base coats (10BB 12/310) and Dulux Ambiance Velvet Silver (10BB 12/310) finishing coats.
