As a fairly versatile room, the living room serves as both a personal space for the family as well as a common area for public ‘consumption’. That said, the challenge is to strike a balance between personal comfort while still maintaining its practicality.
1. Convenience Is Key

When arranging furniture for the living room, try to place sofas and seating near coffee tables or side tables for convenience. This way, you can always have things within reach or have a handy spot to set cups down.
2. Cleverly Concealed

Step into a living room and chances are, you will find a television set plastered in the centre of it. Televisions have become an integral part of the living room but it need not be the central focus. Position it in such a way that it is not the first thing you see as you walk in. Perhaps have it in a cabinet which offers concealed storage.
3. Picture Perfect

Paintings or framed photos and prints are a great accessory to spruce up the living room but we also have to be careful where we hang them. Hanging them up too high is a big no-no as experts say the centre of a painting should be at eye level.
4. Mirror, Mirror On The Wall…
Something simple like a mirror can do wonders for a space, making it appear larger than it is through reflection of light. A large mirror hung on the opposite side of the window will reflect natural light into the home.
5 Mix And Match

There is no hard and fast rule that says furniture has to be coordinated or perfectly matched. Furniture does not have to match. It can be refreshing to have different pieces of furniture and the best part is, you can move them around when you get bored and have a whole new look!
