Perfect Palettes

Driven by today’s modern lifestyle that emphasizes convenience, style and quality, this 650 sqft KL East studio unit in Melawati designed by Casey Leong and Alfred Yap of SQFT Space Design Management Sdn Bhd exemplifies a loft concept that is both functional and fashionable.

“This 650sqft studio unit is designed to meet our client’s target audience’s lifestyle,” shares Casey. “They are likely to be 20- to 30-year-old young professionals like architects and fashion designers from the medium income group who enjoy their lifestyle, like entertainment and have an active social life – for example, they like to occasionally invite friends over for drink. Based on this customer profile, we have decided to adopt a “loft concept.”

The spatial configuration of this unit takes on an open concept where open spaces flow easily from one area to another, creating a cosy abode that seems larger than it really is. This is made possible through the integration of custom-made shelving systems and interior features that offer the owners multipurpose uses – for instance a multifunctional piece of furniture that also serves as a decorative feature and storage unit.

“The whole unit is designed very carefully due to its limited space,” says Alfred. “An open kitchen combining the island counter as the dining table offers more functional space and gives the unit a very stylish appearance.”

Casey adds, “Along with materials like the giant metal sliding door, the wall covering and special effect coatings on the wall, we have also included metal shelving to complement all these different features. The range of light fittings was also carefully planned to create a warm and cosy ambience.”
